Women’s health in Africa

While Africa is a country rich in a lot of things but women’s health is not one of those.  In Africa, communicable diseases can be quite fatal for women. Diseases like HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, maternal and perinatal conditions, and nutritional deficiencies, have claimed more lives here than in any other part of the world.

Considering the global count, almost 468 million women aged 15–49 years (30% of all women) are considered anaemic. Out of these at least 50% are suffering through this ailment because of iron deficiency. From this total almost 48–57% are women living in Africa.

But that is not all. Almost 1 out of every 4 deaths among adult African women is caused by heart diseases, cancer or diabetes. The increase in smoking or consuming tobacco in any other form in the African regions is also a major reason for disintegrating health amongst women in Africa.
